Colonial House cast trained for two weeks at a Mass. museum/attraction.
Prior to living as if they were in the 17th century, the 17 Colonial House participants trained for two weeks at the Plimoth Plantation, a museum/attraction in Mass. The participants “spent time behind the scenes at the museum’s Pilgrim village, learning to garden, start fires and cook,” according to an MPG Newspapers story. The story also mentions that the show was set on Maine’s Androscoggin River, where a colony was constructed—with help from Plimoth Plantation workers—from the ground up. It “is similar to the Plymouth Colony of 1628.” Plantation food historian Kathleen Curtin says, “Before we met the participants, they were abstract to us and we thought they were absolutely crazy. Why would you want to do this? The sheer monotony is hard to grasp.”
