ArchivesNBC is importing a British reality series that tells celebrities all about their ancestors, assuming they can find celebrities willing to participate.
Producers for Who Do You Think You Are “are researching the family trees of several interested celebrity candidates to see whether they have compelling backgrounds (the network declined to name the candidates),” according to The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that “NBC has given the project a series order contingent on finding a suitable celebrity cast.”
On the British show, the paper says, “the uncovered backstories included tales of bigamy, wartime heroism and, in one case, attempted murder. Celebrity participants often are brought to tears as they learn about their relatives’ hardships.”
The show will be produced by Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky’s production company; it’s their “first major commitment” for a reality series.
