Producer pitching World’s Strongest Celebrity to networks

Just when it seemed like producers and networks had learned their lesson and had stopped beating certain reality subgenres to death, they prove that they are their old insecure selves by trying to clone Dancing with the Stars yet again.

Joining recent announcements for a a celebrities-as-magicians show and two celebrities-as-circus performers series (never mind tangentially related shows such as Celebrity Apprentice, Celebrity Rehab, and every single show on VH1) is a new competition from the producer of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Michael Davies is pitching The World’s Strongest Celebrity to networks, and the show would be “a star-centric spinoff of IMG’s long-running ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ competition,” which “would feature well-known folks squaring off against each other in a series of physical challenges designed to test their strength” and “began more than 30 years ago on CBS and is now seen on ESPN2,” Variety reports.

The show “is known for over-the-top events such as the airplane pull, the log lift and the fridge carry,” and “celebs will be asked to pull off modified versions of such challenging feats,” Variety says. And, here it comes, “[i]t’s likely the format of the show would match that of ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ with celebs training with pros and facing weekly elimination.”
