Spike will follow DEA agents for new series

Spike will take cameras inside the Drug Enforcement Agency with a new unscripted series called DEA, which will debut this spring and is being produced by Al Roker Entertainment, the NBC weather guy’s production company.

The show “will give viewers a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the organization,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, as “[p]roducers were given access to follow a group of special agents and task force officers in the DEA’s Detroit division as they regularly put their lives at risk to work on illegal drug cases, involving everyone from street-level dealers to international drug traffickers.”

One member of the DEA, Special Agent Mary Irene Cooper, told the paper, “Nothing else I’ve seen captures the day-to-day experiences of drug law enforcement work like this. You see the thrills, you see the anticipation, you see the chase, you see the reality.”
