Treasure Hunters; That 70s House; Who Wants to Live Forever all planned.
Two networks are creating new shows that seem to borrow heavily from existing reality series. First, MTV is prepping a new show that sounds suspiciously like the series that would result if The Real World had a one-night stand with Manor House. The new show, known as That 70s House, “takes 12 unsuspecting young people who think they’re going to live it up ‘Real World’-style and sticks them in a home straight out of the ’70s (i.e. no Internet, cable TV, cell phones or other modern luxuries),” according to reports compiled by The Futon Critic. In addition, the cast will “compete in various ’70s-related challenges such as roller boogie disco for an unspecified prize all the while walking, talking and dressing as if they belong in the era.”

Over on the networks, NBC is getting into the global race reality show genre. After failing to get anywhere with Lost, which debuted and aired back in 2001, and then watching CBS succeed with The Amazing Race, the network is now producing Treasure Hunters, a worldwide adventure reality series. The 10-episode series “will send multiplayer teams on a global quest to unlock the secrets of an intricate puzzle with each clue unlocking another part of the mystery.” Additionally, NBC “promises a heavy internet component to the show, however no details were specified.” It’s produced by the same people who brought us Project Runway, and may air late this summer.

Finally, FOX, of course, is planning a series that will show contestants “how to make changes in their lifestyle that could prolong their life,” The Hollywood Reporter reports. The network’s description says that during Who Wants to Live Forever, “everyday people are confronted with their mortality, motivating them to make surprising and dramatic changes in their lifestyles.” We can only guess what being “confronted with their mortality” involves, but we’re sure FOX won’t disappoint us.
