TLC’s forthcoming reality show will look for a replacement for Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, but that person will not join the group. TLC’s “surviving members [will] choose a fan to perform with them in a one-off concert and record a song for a greatest-hits album,” but Billboard reports that “[t]he winner will not be a permanent replacement for Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, who died in a car accident in 2002.”
Chilli told the AP, “We’re not looking for a new member. We started out with our fans and it’s all about our greatest hits. Basically, we are trying to give back to our fans and find one girl and give her a chance of a lifetime, to do one last performance with TLC.” The series is called R U The Girl With T-Boz And Chilli?, and is produced by FOX TV, but will air on UPN.
In other rock reality related news, INXS starts looking for a replacement lead singer on January 20, when auditions begin. Produced by Mark Burnett, Rock Star will find someone to “record and tour with” INXS. “But they have to really make sure that they don’t disrespect the fans and the legacy of Michael Hutchence.” House of Blues Concerts talent buyer Paola Palazzo tells Billboard that those involved with the show “have to really make sure that they don’t disrespect the fans and the legacy of Michael Hutchence.” Time to rethink those masturbating-in-the-closet audition tapes and that auto-erotic asphyxiation montage from the premiere.
