new shows: real-life Sex and the City, Gilligan’s Island; US family in UK; golf.Besides airing edited repeats of Sex and the City, TBS is, as part of its rebranding, also producing a reality TV version of the series hosted by Candace Bushnell. The Untitled Candace Bushnell Project is described like this: “Hosted by Candace Bushnell (Sex and the City) and produced by September Films (Bridezillas, Single in the City), this show takes four single girls on a hunt for Mr. Right, or Mr. Right Now, in New York City. The show will follow the girls at work and at play, watching them date and convene regularly to swap dating notes and maybe even dates.” I can’t help but wonder: Will we also see them in bed?
TBS is also creating a reality version of Gilligan’s Island, working with the series’ original producers, Lloyd and Sherwood Schwartz. Contestants will have to try to get off the island they’re stranded on. The network will also offer two new hidden camera shows to the world (just what we needed), produced by Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence.
Another show in development will follow an American family trying to cope with life after being moved to an exotic, foreign locale where the natives speak differently. The family will move to the UK and live in relative luxury for The Royals, which has already been bought by Sky TV in the UK. Producers are now looking for a US network, Variety reports.
PGA Productions is working on a Road Rules meets golf series for CBS. The three-part series will follow eight golfers on two-player teams playing 18 holes on 18 different PGA courses. “The 18 holes come from 18 different PGA Tour courses spread over 12 states, and teams must finish all 18 holes in 10 days traveling by recreational vehicle,” according to The Advertiser. It will air on CBS in May and June.
