Archivesnetwork plans Christian version of Idol.
The people who brought you ‘NSync and Britney Spears are now producing a Christian version of American Idol. Gifted will air on Trinity Broadcasting Network and be produced by Wright Entertainment Group, who managed ‘NSync and others. The Orlando Sentinel’s Christopher Sherman outlines the new show, which starts with “a cross-country, summer bus tour to 11 Trinity stations where auditions will take place” with contestants “perform[ing] gospel or contemporary spiritual songs”; two finalists from each audition will go to Hollywood and “perform before a live studio audience and be critiqued by celebrity judges. Eight winners will go on to the finals, where the television audience will choose the ultimate winner, whose career will then be managed by Johnny Wright and Matt Crouch.”
