Babyface-produced BET series College Hill will be first black reality TV show.
BET is producing what it says is “television’s first-ever Black dramatic reality show.” The show, called College Hill, follows eight students who attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. The show is more like The Real World than Freshman Diaries, as the cast will live together. A BET vice president says, “There is college life, and then there’s Black college life. And those who have been around historically Black colleges and universities know there are social, cultural and attitudinal differences from the more mainstream institutions.” The show debuts Jan. 28 at 9 p.m.; it’s produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds’ company. Executive producer Tracey Edmonds says, “There are some hysterically funny parts of this series, and there are some areas that are deep, troubling and sometimes a little painful.”
