Today, Page Six is reporting that a West coast version of The Apprentice, with Jeffrey Katzenberg in the bad hair boss role, is being produced by Mark Burnett. Page Six’s “source” says “[i]t will obviously have a different name.” It will probably also have a completely different format and subject, since Variety is reporting that Mark Burnett and Jeffrey Katzenberg are teaming up—along with Sylvester Stallone—to produce The Contender, which “will focus on a nationwide search for a new boxing superstar.” Thus, Burnett’s manager’s denial to Page Six is apparently the accurate part of the story, but since when did Page Six let accuracy get in its way? Burnett says “Sly will be the heart and soul of the show” and will “mentor these fighters with the whole ‘Rocky’ spirit.”
