Quiksilver/Roxy, MTV plan summer series that will follow surfing girls.
The number of surfing-related reality TV shows set to debut this summer has now reached two. The WB is planning North Shore, and now MTV is producing a series called Surf Girls that will follow “eight amateur female long or shortboard surfers between the ages of 18-24,” according to a casting call. The series will follow girls as they compete in surfing contests, and is being sponsored by Quiksilver’s Roxy clothing line. Although their products will be heavily featured in the show and although the company will release a related book series in May when the show debuts, they’ve paid nothing to be included, and the series will “include competitors’ clothing brand,” according to the Wall Street Journal. Company executives “didn’t [want to] sell out the surf community.”
