A&E’s first reality TV show will follow a family who runs a mortuary. According to The Washington Post, Dearly Departed “follows the Wissmillers, a trio of adult sisters who work at a mortuary in Poway, a quiet suburb of San Diego. Their father also works there but not as owner of the business; that distinction belongs to a fiance of one of the sisters.”

A&E exec Bob DeBitetto compares the show not to Six Feet Under, but to The Osbournes, because he says “there’s a tremendous amount of humor. But nothing frivolous, because these people are working in the shadow of death.” Still, he says “it’s not about shock value,” so no apparently there will be no shots of mangled corpses.
