More protests are planned for a show that is still only in development. Yesterday the United Mine Workers of America’s president said the group’s members will protest The Real Beverly Hillbillies at CBS’ May shareholders meeting. In a letter the president of the union said “[t]his plan—to take a poor rural family, place them in a Hollywood mansion and ridicule them on national television—is repugnant to me and to the union members I represent.” Meanwhile, the Center for Rural Strategies continues its campaign to get CBS to cancel plans for the show.
