FOX plans Paradise Hotel-esque Forever Eden, which will air indefinitely.
Capitalizing on the success of Paradise Hotel, FOX is planning Forever Eden, which, although it sounds very familiar, is not the rumored second season of Paradise Hotel. FOX’s reality chief Mike Darnell tells TV Week that the show will be “the first attempt at a continuing reality soap opera.” The structure for the show, which will begin this midseason and will air for at least 25 episodes, involves men and women at a resort outside of the US; they’ll try to stick around to earn more money, but will periodically be replaced. Darnell talks about their stays in terms of both weeks and years: “It could be three years. The idea is they are not going on a reality show. They are actually divorcing themselves from their lives. They will become like soap stars, because they are going to be there for what could be a very long time.” He also says that “last summer [FOX] realized there was something to men and women trapped in one place, no matter how exotic or beautiful. It seems to cause a certain amount of strife and dysfunction. After a certain while dementia sets in, leading us to this idea: How long could you take living in paradise-or living in ‘Eden’ in this case?”
