Dog the Bounty Hunter debuts tonight.
COPS meets reality TV tonight as A&E debuts its new series Dog the Bounty Hunter with two back-to-back episodes starting at 10 p.m. ET. The series follows bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman as he “hunt[s] down bail-jumping criminals while trying to maintain his marriage and a relationship with his twelve children.” The Boston Globe’s Joanna Weiss writes that Dog “takes the scary/cuddly dichotomy to a new level” and says his “requisite analogies about criminals and life” get tired but “without the treacly stuff, the series probably wouldn’t exist.” The New York Post’s Linda Stasi says that “Dog might be a real character, but listening to his bible-preaching and lectures about fatherhood while doting on his latest crop o’ little children and his formerly estranged grown son smacks of phony.” The Boston Hearld’s John Ruch disagrees, writing that “the connection is real and the conversation often affecting. Dog may be outlandish, but he isn’t fake.”
