Penguin Cam: like Big Brother’s live feeds but with more intelligence

To promote its upcoming nature documentary series Frozen Planet, the Discovery Channel is broadcasting a 24/7 live feed. Unlike Big Brother’s, however, the feed is free, and shows interaction between intelligent creatures: penguins.

Penguin Cam follows “nearly 300 penguins, representing all five Antarctic species: emperors, kings, Adées, gentoos and macaronis,” according to the network. It’s a feed from SeaWorld San Diego’s Penguin Encounter attraction, and even though I have issues with animal captivity after watching The Cove, it’s oddly compelling, particularly when a penguin takes interest in the camera and decides to break the fourth wall.

Here’s the live feed, which has audio, and the noises the penguins make is far more pleasing than, say, Rachel’s laugh.
