HGTV’s Design Star returns Sunday with fewer contestants

Design Star, HGTV’s competition to find a host for a new show returns Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET for its third season.

The network’s most-watched show will again be a competition between a group of designers who want their own show. Clive Pearse returns to host, while the same judges—Martha McCully, Cynthia Rowley, and Vern Yip—also return.

While one of the cast members was selected by viewers online, the show will actually feature fewer contestants than last year. Season two had 11 cast members, and season one had 10, but this year just nine will compete. That’s being done “[t]o reinforce the character element … so that viewers can get to know them better,” USA TODAY reports, citing HGTV exec James Bolosh.
