Deadliest Catch captain Phil Harris has a stroke, now out of medically induced coma
Cornelia Marie captain Phil Harris suffered a stroke while offloading on Friday, and following surgery, is now out of a medically induced coma.
His sons Jake and Josh told TMZ today that Phil “showed some good signs of improvement,” and when he woke up, told his doctors and nurses, “Don’t fuck up.”
He “suffered a stroke [Friday] at St. Paul Island in Alaska” and “was medivacked to Anchorage,” according to the ship’s blog. He had surgery Sunday, and the blog later reported that he was “recovering” and that “Derrick Ray flew to St. Paul to take on the role of relief skipper for the rest of the Opilio season.” That recovery included being placed in an induced coma.
I asked but haven’t received an answer from Discovery about whether or not cameras were present and filming Friday.
