Shawn Johnson could earn $365,000 on Dancing with the Stars
Olympian Shawn Johnson’s contract with Dancing with the Stars 8 promises her a maximum of $365,000 if she stays in the competition until the end.
She gets base pay of $125,000, plus weekly pay that starts at $10,000 (for weeks three and four), $20,000 (five, six, and seven), $30,000 (eight and nine), and $50,000 (10 and 11), according to her contract, which TMZ obtained because it’s a public document, as her status as a minor means a judge had to approve it. The show can also exercise its option for a “support show” which pays $10,000 plus $5,000 more if an on-camera interview is required.
That base pay and bonus pay is different than what The Wrap reported earlier this week about contestants’ salaries, although that information was contradictory and unreliable to begin with.
The contract also details everything else Shawn is required to do as part of the series, from agreeing to one sit-down interview and two pick-up interviews to participating in package segments and group dance rehearsals, plus publicity for the show. Training is required to be “no less than six hours a week” and off-camera rehearsal is not permitted. The contract also says contestants “shall wear articles and use products at Producer’s request, including articles and products furnished by Series sponsors,” and says Shawn gets business class airfare to and form her home.
Even if compensation differs, presumably every celebrity is required to do the same things.
