ArchivesBrooke Burke won Dancing with the Stars 7 Tuesday night. After her win, Brooke told People that the experience “was really trying, physically, emotionally, you name it.”
It’s the first win for her professional partner, Derek Hough, whose sister Julianne won twice and announced she’s quitting the show. Brooke and Derek’s final dance earned a 30 from the judges, bringing their two-night total to 88.
They defeated runner-up Warren Sapp, who earned 27 for his final dance (80 total) and Lance Bass placed third after earning 28 from the judges for his last dance (81 total). Lance told People, “I really thought that Brooke and Derek deserved to win. We couldn’t be happier for her.” He and Lacey Schwimmer will perform on the upcoming tour, and Lance said, “I’m excited because the tour will actually be a nice break for us. There won’t be people judging you, you’re doing the same dances every night and you’re riding on the tour bus, having fun with your friends.”
Lance’s perhaps surprise weak showing may have something to do with the decreasing number of younger viewers now watching the show. The finale was watched by 19.08 million people in its first hour and 22.08 million in its second hour, and it easily won the night. The finale beat last spring’s finale but were also down from last fall, when Helio’s win was watched by 24.88 million people.
However, the show is hemorrhaging younger viewers. Tuesday’s finale “was the lowest finale performance for the show ever” among viewers 18 to 49, TV By the Numbers reports, and it’s also “down about 20% from last fall’s finale.”
