Mark Ballas injured during Dancing finale; Maks says he’s “moving on”
Sabrina Bryan’s professional dancing partner on Dancing with the Stars 5 went to the hospital last night following their encore performance of the cha-cha. Mark Ballas “was quickly swept from the set and rushed to the hospital for a severe shoulder injury,” KABC reports.
He had a previous injury that was apparently exacerbated by the dance. Mark Cuban identified the injury as “a torn labrum,” and Cheryl Burke said, “I think it happened last night when Sabrina and him were practicing. He just woke up and danced again which he probably shouldn’t of danced and hurt it even more and it just got really, really got bad.”
Cameron Matheson told the station that Mark “was in serious pain and went right to the hospital. I couldn’t believe that he was actually dancing because he has had his arm in a sling leading up to this. … He said something about sewing the muscle back on, maybe it was torn or something. I am not sure. He did say something about surgery and stapling the muscle back, so it must be some sort of torn something.”
Meanwhile, his fellow professional dancer, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who placed second both last night and third last season, suggested this may be his final season. “If this is the limit of where I can get in a show, then let it be. I’m satisfied and moving on,” he told Extra. Extra suggests that might mean he’s “swearing off the show for good” because “he’s already got several other projects lined up, including a show in Sin City.” But he might also just mean that he’s okay with not winning the series.
