With the win, Julianne ties Cheryl Burke’s record for back-to-back wins; last season, she was paired with winner Apolo Ohno.
Marie Osmond’s doll-collecting fan base didn’t do enough to keep her in the competition, as she was eliminated first. Access Hollywood reported Tuesday that the Children’s Miracle Network sent out millions of e.mail messages asking fans to vote for her, but those weren’t enough to overcome her poorly received final dances.
The finalists’ dances both received perfect 30s from the judges, making them irrelevant. The judges’ scores from both nights left Mel with 85 points, while Helio had 84. After the final dance, host Tom Begeron summed up the season in numbers: “10 weeks ago, 12 stars started out in this competition. After 2,301 judges points, 94 competitive dances, 14 gallons of spray-tan—seriously—only two couples and one set of scores remain,” he said.
