Wayne Newton will attend but not perform at Dancing finale due to heart condition
The ongoing saga of Dancing with the Stars 5 and its complications, maladies, deaths, and other weirdness continues. Although the cast members will reportedly dance a full routine during the finale, Wayne Newton will not participate because of a heart condition.
He has “[a] viral infection to the heart called cardiomyopathy,” People reports, and that means he “has had to cancel a two-month engagement at Harrahs in Las Vegas and will be forced to miss performing in the upcoming Dancing finale, though he will be there.”
The magazine says Wayne Newton is “going ahead with plans to perform on a portion of the Dancing with the Stars tour, which starts next month.” Right now, he’s scheduled to appear at the beginning and during the middle of January.
Overall, he said he was feeling okay. “This is just another little bump in the road. The doctors are a little more concerned than I am. Part of their concern is that I feel so good—I’m not taking this lightly.” Of his missed performances, he said, “I really want to apologize to the fans that were going to see me in those shows. I’m terribly apologetic. And for those who want to paint this situation with a black brush, they’re not going to get their wish. I’m going to be fine.”
