Dancing with the Stars moves to Mondays to avoid Idol; ABC has yet to select all of the cast

When Dancing with the Stars 4 debuts in March, it won’t compete against American Idol, as was rumored.

Instead, ABC is moving the show to Mondays and Tuesdays, starting March 19. A press release says there will be “a two-hour premiere on Monday, March 19 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET),” but the first results show won’t air until March 27 at 9, after the second performance show, which “will also be two hours in length (8:00-10:00 p.m.).”

The show settles into its regular time slot on April 2, when it “will air Mondays from 8:00-9:30 p.m, and ‘Dancing with the Stars the Results Show’ on Tuesdays from 9:00-10:00 p.m,” according to ABC. American Idol airs its performance show from 8 to 9 on Tuesdays.

Last week, ABC’s Steve McPherson told critics, “I think our fans would have been upset, Idol fans would have been upset if we had put them head to head,” the Orlando Sentinel’s Hal Boedeker reports. Boedeker also notes that “ABC will announce the celebrity competitors on Good Morning America,” and “the network is just halfway through the selection process” at this point.

One celebrity is confirmed: Joey Fatone said he was a contestant back in December.
