Former president Bill Clinton said he turned down an offer to appear on Dancing with the Stars, but only because he didn’t have time.

On Rachael Ray’s talk show Tuesday, responding to an audience member’s question, he said, “They contacted me once about this, and I told them I didn’t have the time to train for it—you know, you actually go out there and train, you really work at it. So I had to pass.” (E! has video of the question.)

Had the show landed the former president, that would have gone a long way to helping them reach their goal of having a higher-profile cast, although since he is appearing on Rachael Ray, it’s not exactly like he’d be lowering himself too much to go dancing.
