Game Show Network will re-air Dancing with the Stars 4-14, insisting DWTS is a game show
Dancing with the Stars fourth through 14th seasons will repeat on GSN starting in January.
While this makes the Game Show Network the latest in a line of cable TV networks to evolve their programming so far beyond their names that their name no longer makes sense (MTV, VH1, A&E, et cetera), GSN is actually arguing that this is a perfect fit. Its president, Amy Introcaso-Davis, said in a press release quote, “Many of the most popular shows on television today — including Dancing with the Stars — are essentially game shows at their core. GSN is all about the potent combination of games, competition, entertainment and fun, and we know that Dancing with the Stars is a show our female audience already loves.”
The last part makes sense, but the first part does not. There’s nothing game show about it at all. There are plenty of reality series that share something in common with game shows, mostly series with standalone episodes such as Wipeout or Chopped, but a judged variety show does not.
