Dancing with the Stars creator dies

The man who developed and produced Strictly Come Dancing and then brought it to the United States as Dancing with the Stars has died. Richard Hopkins was 47 and died from a brain tumor.

The Guardian reports that “[a]s a senior entertainment executive at the BBC, Hopkins developed, pitched and went on to produce BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing, before working on its US equivalent, Dancing with the Stars.” He also produced the first season of the UK’s Big Brother and produced shows including Fame Academy and Fear Factor.
