BET’s College Hill: The Interns debuts tonight
BET debuts its fifth season of College Hill tonight, and with a subtitle of “interns,” the series is moving away from The Real World model and more toward The Apprentice. Two episodes air at 10 p.m. ET, and repeat Thursday at 9 and Friday at 10.
The new series follows 10 people (who had to meet internship requirements) will live together in Chicago and “embark on an exciting summer job. While the internship focuses on education, employment and entrepreneurship, the cast will participate in challenges and charitable activities that will strengthen their marketable jobs skills and test their work ethic,” according to BET. They’ll be guided and evaluated by Dr. Ian Smith, and some interns will be sent home as part of the competition.
That new twist doesn’t help the series, according to the two critics who reviewed it. The New York Daily News’ Richard Huff says that while this “attempt to expand the BET-franchise hit reality series … comes up a bit short” and “falls down” with the competition aspect. The Boston Globe’s Mark A. Perigard says it “falls down on the job” because “it’s never clear to what end or what is at stake.”
