CMT’s Go Kinky pilot airs tonight

CMT follows Texas gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman with a two-episode special that debuts tonight at 11 p.m. ET.

The show was originally announced as a series, and CMT even aired the first two episodes last November in the middle of the night. Had it succeeded, it would have aired as a full series in the fall. While CMT’s web site now calls the show “two half-hour specials,” and there’s been no word yet of it possibly returning, Kinky Friedman’s web site says that “the more people watch these, the better the chance that the show will get picked up and turned into a series.”

In its review, The New York Times calls the show “performance art of a high order,” while the Houston Chronicle opts for a simpler description, saying he’s “doggone entertaining.”
