Bravo takes its bad parenting series and turns it over to people with pets, debuting Showdog Moms & Dad tonight at 10 p.m. ET. Have no fear: Kids being abused by their parents will return soon, as Bravo will air Sports Kids Moms & Dads later this year. But tonight, for eight episodes, it’s all about pet owners who enter their pets in competitions. If the format sounds familiar, like that of a cult-classic film, The New York Post’s Linda Stasi says that producers “tried too hard to find the real-life equivalents of the characters from ‘Best In Show,’ the hilarious Christopher Guest-Eugene Levy mocumentary about the world of showdogs.” Producer Todd Radnitz admits as much, telling The Advocate that “We’ve taken Best in Show and pumped it up a notch with the real version of these people.” Executive producer Fenton Bailey says, “crazy is the sign of an authentic, passionate person.”
