Thom Bierdz, who played Phillip Foster Chancellor III from 1986 to 1989 on The Young and the Restless, auditioned for Big Brother 3, wanting to become the show’s gay male cast member because he was “ready to come out publicly.” On his web site, he writes, “Didn’t the show need a masculine gay guy on it for a change?—which would portray gays in a better light than weak and over-sensitive Bunky of last season?” He wasn’t cast, however; in his essay, he recounts his audition and talks about why he might not have been selected.
