Omarosa vs. Bethenny: Bethenny loses $10K, makes another unsympathetic reality star look good
Omarosa took down Bethenny Frankel on Bethenny’s own talk show today, and their argument is pretty spectacular. “You made cupcakes. I worked in the White House. Get a grip,” Omarosa said at one point.
Previously, awful talk show host Bethenny Frankel made Kate Gosselin sympathetic, so she’s clearly making an art form out of making impossible-to-like reality TV stars look good.
It began when Omarosa called Bethenny out for something that Bethenny said on The View about having “a real career,” making her different from Omarosa. “Bethenny is my friend; why would she say that?” Omarosa asked. Bethenny replied, coldly, “We weren’t friends.” Then Omarosa called her out for seeking advice before going on The Apprentice: Martha Stewart: “maybe maybe you were just trying to use me.”
Bethenny denied saying that on The View, and told Omarosa, “I will give you $10,000 if I said, ‘I have a real career.’” A producer gave Bethenny a phone with the transcript, and it revealed that Omarosa was right—and, to her credit, Bethenny said, “I owe you $10,000.”
I usually find Omarosa to be smart, thoughtful, and gratingly annoying about how she presents her ideas, but perhaps because I’m not a big fan of Bethenny or her obnoxious talk show, I was kind of thrilled when Omarosa told Bethenny, “you get to walk around being mediocre and you still get rewarded with things.” She was making a point about black women, who “have to be exceptional to get anything in this business,” and later said “I wasn’t calling her mediocre,” but it was still awesome.
Later, Omarosa pointed out her staying power, since she’s still on TV 10 years after first being on The Apprentice, and made a thinly veiled dig at Bethenny’s crappy ratings: “I want to see you here, still, this show, Bethenny, a year from now.”
Then Omarosa called out someone on the production staff for getting the audience to clap for Bethenny: “I wish I had an audience person getting me cheers whenever I needed them.”
