ArchivesBravo’s most-anticipated show of the summer, Being Bobby Brown, debuts tonight at 10 p.m. ET. The series “follows Brown, his wife, pop superstar Whitney Houston and his extended family over the course of six months as they put their respective lives back together.” Starting with their past drug use alone, there’s plenty to reassemble. Hell, just look at them.
If the reviews are even half-right, it sounds like we’re in for one hell of a series. The Hollywood Reporter offers the most hyperbolic review, saying the show “is undoubtedly the most disgusting and execrable series ever to ooze its way onto television.” Nice.
Elsewhere, The LA Times says that “the unacknowledged engine of the show — [is] waiting to see what Whitney’s gonna do next.” The Washington Post says that the couple’s “lives seem sad much of the time, yet never rise to the status of tragedy. They’re just there, and we’re just here, and the camera is plopped in between.”
