PBS’ new American Family, debuting tonight, is not a reality TV show.
At first glance, PBS’ new show American Family, debuting tonight at 8 p.m. ET in most markets, looks like a follow-up to the 1973 An American Family, the first real reality TV show that followed the Loud family. While they share two words of their titles, and while both follow families, tonight’s show is fictional, starring Raquel Welch and Edward James Olmos. The show is noteworthy, however, since it’s the first drama to focus on a Latino family. Also, it was originally to debut two years ago on CBS, but the network pulled it.
