interest in Amish in the City interest is high as UPN releases cast info, episode.
UPN unveiled its newest reality series Amish in the City while “UPN executives admitted yesterday they were worried TV writers would all but ignore the network’s new fall lineup” because of interest over the new show, according to the New York Daily News. UPN Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff said “when we watch the show we learn about human nature.” So why film it in secret? CBS President Les Moonves said, “There’s no question that judging from past history, the idea of announcing this with a six-month lead time wouldn’t have done the show any good and would have created a greater controversy than we felt was necessary.” UPN’s web site for the show currently has a photo of the five Amish participants and a description for the series. The Daily News’ David Bianculli says the six non-Amish roommates include “Whitney, a black 18-year-old from South Central; … Reese, who’s gay; Meagan, self-described as “the ultimate party girl”; and Ariel, a hard-core vegan.” He gives the show two stars and says, “The city kids display plenty of attitude, but the Amish hold their ground. That’s the only real justification for watching, and making, ‘Amish in the City.’” The show debuts one week from today at 8 p.m. ET.
