Technical difficulties screw America’s Got Talent act Silhouettes

Technical difficulties meant that one of the final four America’s Got Talent act’s performance mostly took place after the hour had concluded, so any viewers DVRing the show—a necessity considering how filler-filled it is—missed it.

When the show returned from a commercial break late in the hour, Nick Cannon explained that there were technical difficulties and introduced a package of clips from the auditions that was likely meant for tonight’s finale.

With less than two minutes left in the hour-long episode, Silhouettes, started their performance. My DVR cut off before their phone number was shown even once and after about half of their two-minute performance, biographical package also wasn’t shown before their performance, and I presume it wasn’t shown after the judging, during which Piers Morgan said the show “saved the best ‘til last.”

The teenage band Poplyfe pretty much bombed, and that leaves Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., Team iLuminate, and Silhouettes. Even without the DVR issue, the two groups have a disadvantage, as Howie Mandel noted, in that it’s not as easy for viewers to identify with them and their stories, and they will probably split the vote of people who want to see an actual act instead of a mediocre singer win the show. So I think it’s a safe bet that the show will continue its streak of being a third-rate American Idol.
