Jerry Springer will replace Regis Philbin as host of America’s Got Talent
NBC’s second season of America’s Got Talent will have an unlikely new host: Jerry Springer. He replaces Regis Philbin, who hosted the first season.
However, Philbin wasn’t fired. Instead, according to the AP, Regis “opted not to return … because of the ‘heavy travel schedule’ involved with the show’s tapings in Los Angeles,” according to the AP.
Springer, who most recently was on Dancing with the Stars 3, has a sense of humor about his new job, saying in an NBC press release, “I’ve been around some of America’s most talented individuals on my talk show for the last 16 years, so I’ll feel right at home hosting ‘America’s Got Talent. I love the show and look forward to discovering the best performers from across the country.”
NBC VP Craig Plestis also said that Jerry’s daytime job will be of help: “To say the least, he is known for presiding over an unpredictable show where the unexpected is the typical order of each day.”
