Ratings for America’s Got Talent up 9 percent over last year

The second season debut of America’s Got Talent drew more viewers than last year’s premiere. On Tuesday, 12.9 million viewers watched, compared to 11.8 million last year, which is a 9 percent increase, Media Life reports.

Among viewers ages 18 to 49, the show increased its viewership by 35 percent, drawing NBC’s “top 18-49 rating this summer,” and making it “the best rating thus far for any summer show debut,” according to Media Life.

Overall, the two-hour finale, which featured a quasi-confrontation between new judge Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan over a little girl who performed, earned “the show’s best-ever performance in total viewers and the top premiere of the summer.”
