Lee DeWyze has the worst sales of any American Idol winner

American Idol may have mostly remained on the top of the ratings pile during its last, awful season, but its winner is at the bottom of the pile in terms of record sales. Lee DeWyze’s debut album Live it Up was released Nov. 16, not that anyone heard about it or even remembers who he is.

With his dismal 39,000 records sold, Lee did, however, beat Kris Allen—at least when it comes to sucking, because Lee had less than half of Kris’ first-week sales. USA TODAY reports that Lee’s “first-week sales are the lowest for a debut album from any winner or runner-up in the show’s history.”

Here’s how many albums each of the winners sold in their first week of release::

  1. Ruben Studdard (2): 416,600
  2. Carrie Underwood (4): 315,000
  3. Taylor Hicks (5): 298,000
  4. Kelly Clarkson (1): 297,400
  5. David Cook (7): 280,000
  6. Fantasia Barrino (3): 239,000
  7. Jordin Sparks (6): 119,000
  8. Kris Allen (8): 80,000
  9. Lee DeWyze (9): 39,000
