Miley Cyrus will mentor Idol finalists, who will sing Billboard #1s instead of teen idol songs

American Idol 9 changed the theme for tomorrow night’s performance episode. Instead of performing songs by teen idols, they will instead perform Billboard #1 hits—although Wednesday’s results show will be filled with performances by teen stars: and Joe Jonas, Demi Lovato, and Miley Cyrus, who will also mentor the finalists.

Fox announced that today, although MJ first reported the identity of the previously secret mentor, Miley Cyrus, and the change in themes, which was accidentally revealed on the show’s web site.

The reason for the change isn’t clear, however. The Fox press release said only that “Miley Cyrus will appear as a guest mentor … and help the Top 11 finalists … prepare for their performances on a Billboard No.1 Hits-themed show,” and that Wednesday’s results show will include Cyrus performing “When I Look At You” and Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato performing “Make A Wave.” We might eventually find out who goes home, too.
