Viewers vote out four non-white American Idol semi-finalists

American Idol 9 dropped four more semi-finalists last night, and coincidentally—or not—all of the contestants who went home were people of color: Michelle Delamor, John Park, Jermaine Sellers, and Haeley Vaughn.

On the one hand, with Alex Lambert and Tim Urban and Didi Benami and others still around, it’s kind of suspicious that voters got rid of these particular four semi-finalists all at the same time: three are black, one is Asian. (Update: And as HitFix points out, two of the semi-finalists to leave last week were people of color, also.)

On the other hand, as the song of shame performances proved, they all pretty much sucked this week (some of them even did worse), and their exit seemed to be inevitable. And even God didn’t want to keep Jermaine Sellers around.

So, goodbye John, Jermaine, Michelle, and Haeley. And Danny Gokey, with your new country style and incessant chattering, please stay gone, thanks.
