Idol producer denies report that they “want Paula back”
It’s been a few weeks, at least, since there’s been a discussion of Paula Abdul’s next move, and having apparently run out of possiblities—Star Search, Dancing with the Stars—the rumor is now that she might return to American Idol. Please.
In Touch Weekly quoted an anonymous “insider” who said, “They want Paula back. They’re not sure if she’d be the fifth judge, but they are talking to her. People tuned in to see Paula’s wacky antics and her chemistry with Simon. The show is just not as much fun to watch without her.” As Media Life pointed out, the quesiton here is “where that speculation is coming from—is it Abdul’s camp? is it fan boards? is it wishful thinking on Fox’s part?”
The only thing that I can think of that is not wrong with American Idol this season is Paula Abdul’s absence, so let’s not ruin that, too.
Update: HitFix’s Daniel Fienberg tweeted that executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz denied the rumor when she was asked about it in a conference call with reporters, and The New York Daily News quotes her as saying, “There’s no truth to that rumor.”
