Adam Lambert has the #1 album on Amazon without any promotion; Kris Allen is #63

Adam Lambert’s forthcoming debut album became the top-selling record on Amazon.com shortly after being listed on the site, despite its Nov. 24 release date and a lack of promotion for the release.

Kris Allen’s album, which will be out Nov. 17, is #63 (as of 10 p.m. ET Tuesday). Adam Lambert is also selling more records than Barbara Streisand, who just released a new album today, and also leads music by Harry Connick, Jr., The Beatles, Susan Boyle, Mariah Carey, Michael Buble, Madonna, and Alice in Chains, the other artists in the top 10.

A Tuesday morning story in the New York Post reported said that “Lambert’s record company, RCA, did not announce that it was taking pre-release orders” and “sales were all propelled by word of mouth.” A fan discovered its listing and “a frenzy of ordering drove Lambert’s ranking all the way to No. 2” on Sunday and Monday.

Today it became number one on the overall music sales chart, in addition to leading the pop and rock charts.
