Paula Abdul either about to quit or get her salary doubled
After Paula Abdul’s strong public criticism of American Idol producers earlier this week, there are mixed reports about her future on the show. She’ll either be quitting, perhaps even before this season starts, or getting twice the money.
Paula is currently negotiating her future on the show, since her contract expires this season, and Radar reports that “Paula’s looking to double her current $5 million-$7 million a year agreement…and it looks like she’ll get it.” That report cites “[s]ources close to the ongoing negotiations,” who is “95 percent sure” Paula will re-up with the show.
But “a source close to Abdul” tells MSNBC’s Courtney Hazlett that Paula has “no reason to put herself through the stress of the show if she doesn’t want to. She’s all but done; and given her other successes, she has no reason to be afraid about speaking out now.”
A separate source at the show told Hazlett that they’re making plans for American Idol 8 to proceed without her. “Obviously we have three other judges who can carry the show, and if she leaves before the live shows, the auditions can be edited so that she’s hardly noticed,” that anonymous person said.
