Results show is the lowest-rated in two years, down 20 percent in 18-49 compared to last year
The drawn-out and bloated results episode of American Idol 7 that featured Mariah Carey, Elliot Yamin, stupid viewer questions, and this year’s final-7 attempt at cruelty, generated the least amount of interest of any results show in two years.
While 22.7 million people tuned in, that “was off more than 20% in the [18 to 49] demo vs. the same night a year ago while drawing its smallest regular Wednesday audience in two years,” Variety reports. The show doesn’t do better on non-regular Wednesday nights; Idol Gives Back was watched by only 17.5 million people.
Still, that’s a hell of a lot more than the 10.7 million who watched the Democratic presidential debate on ABC, or the 13.4 million who watched CSI:NY, so Kristy Lee Cook’s goodbye was deemed more important than the nation’s future or Gary Sinise’s awkward line readings.
