American Idol still losing viewers, and had its lowest ratings in two years on Tuesday

American Idol had “its lowest score on the night in two years” on Tuesday for Bee Gees performance night, Variety reports.

While 25.47 million people watched, the show had 20 percent fewer viewers ages 18 to 49 compared to last year. “Dissatisfaction with this year’s finalists could be partly to blame, although it could be that even TV’s No. 1 show isn’t immune to the spring swoon that has seen a wide swath of hits … lose a sizeable number of viewers since daylight-saving time started,” Variety says.

The show was also “down 13 percent from last week,” and “Fox’s medical drama ‘House’ matched its ‘American Idol’ lead-in for the first time,” according to TV Week.

For the results show, 27.4 million viewers tuned in, Variety says. That’s down from the 28.75 who watched the results show last week, according to the AP.

The show is now firmly in a rut, repeatedly drawing numbers lower than they have been in two years and dropping significantly from last year and, while there have been some rebounds, week-to-week. Lower ratings earlier in the season might have been excusable—fewer talented singers in the top 24, et cetera—but if anything, the final few weeks should see a ratings increase as the competition tightens.
