Idol songwriting contest is “on the back burner”
American Idol 6’s songwriting contest, which is designed to let the public create and select the single performed by the winner, may not happen.
The show’s executive producer, Ken Warwick, tells TV Week, “It may still happen, but at the moment it’s on the back burner.”
The reason, he says, is the charity benefit concert the show will air in April. “What with the charity show, we’re up to our ears in it.”
However, at the beginning of February, the show’s other executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, said FOX had not yet approved plans for the songwriting competition.
