Antonella says “embarrassment” over photos “was worth it”

On Friday, the day after being kicked off American Idol 6, Antonella Barba talked to reporters about her experience.

Unfortunately, reporters weren’t allowed to ask her much about the only thing anyone cares about: her topless photos. That’s because “[p]ublicists for the top-rated Fox show cut off reporters’ questions about the pictures during the conference call,” the Associated Press reports. How arrogant and ridiculous; those photos are more responsible for the show’s buzz this season than 90 percent of the singers who made it to the top 12.

But Antonella did comment briefly about those photos, and said, “These were photos of my personal life that got exploited without my consent. I’ve learned to be careful who you trust.” As to dealing with the photos’ impact, she said, “It was difficult. It wasn’t how I intended things to go. I tried to block it out as much as possible.” Still, she later said that “[a]ll this embarrassment that has come with it, I still think it was worth it.”

As to her future plans, Antonella said that she’s “going to stay in L.A. for a week or two. I want to see what I can do with this for a career. I want to strike while the iron is hot.” Incredibly, she said that those plans don’t include posing nude or provocatively because “That is not the way I want to present myself.”

Antonella: That toothpaste is out of the tube and all over the floor, so you might as dip your toothbrush in it, even if the floor hasn’t been cleaned in weeks.

She added, “I keep getting told no publicity is bad publicity. Yes, it’s true my name is more well-known because of it. But I’m not known for the things I want to be known for. I’d rather present myself in a more classy way.” That said, the AP reports that she later hedged a bit, saying, “Well, you know what? Right now, I want to look at all the offers that I get and sort out what’s best for me.”

Smart move. Because again, there are no offers related to singing coming from anyone anytime soon, unless that person is tone-deaf or crazy.
