Antonella goes home as Idol finds its top 12
After “almost 37 million votes came in,” according to Ryan Seacrest, American Idol 6 has its top 12 finalists—and that group does not include Antonella Barba.
The top 12 are Melinda Doolittle, Stephanie Edwards, Gina Glocksen, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Sanjaya Malakar, Brandon Rogers, Chris Sligh, Jordin Sparks, Phil Stacey, Chris Richardson, and Haley Scarnato. Headed home are Antonella Barba, Jared Cotter, Sundance Head, and Sabrina Sloan.
While DialIdol identified most everyone as vulnerable, compartively speaking, it loooked like Antonella was safe. As she left, Ryan Seacrest said, “Thank you for everything you’ve done on the show.” What the meant was, “Thanks for giving the world something to talk about other than the fact that this season is dreadfully boring.”
The judges were more appalled by the other eliminations, including Sabrina’s and Sundance’s. “Sabrina should be in that top 12, dawg. She definitely put it down; America got that one wrong, I think,” Randy said. When Sundance went home instead of Sanjaya, Paula said, “I’m speechless. This is a singing competition, and Sundance, you’ve been one of our finest.”
Simon Cowell said viewers were basically not listening to the performances. Ryan asked him, “Simon, what happened?” and shrugging, he said, “The volume was turned down?”
Paula ended the night by dissing many of the finalists, although she said she wasn’t dissing them: “No disrespect to Sanjaya or to anyone here; it’s mind-boggling.”
