ArchivesAmerican Idol’s executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, said he never invited Courtney Love to guest judge on the show, nor will she replace Paula Abdul.
In a statement to Us Weekly, Lythgoe said, “I did not call Courtney Love and am afraid someone may have misrepresented me. Courtney Love is a very talented artist, but the judges for American Idol are Paula, Randy and Simon. We have no plans to add to or replace any of them.”
Us Weekly sounds somewhat skeptical of this denial, saying he “didn’t offer any comment” on Tuesday, “but now Lythgoe denies making the call.”
However, “[a] source close to Love says, ‘It was probably a prank.’” And Courtney Love’s representative says, “There’s no truth to it whatsoever.”
